Sedation Dentist: Afraid of The Dentist?
Think you might be one of many who suffers from dental anxiety? You are not alone. Many people throughout the United States suffer from some level of dental anxiety. Luckily for you, Lincoln’s Preserve Family Dentistry is the sedation dentist you’ve been looking for.
By this point, our dentists have seen just about everything. There’s no need to feel embarrassed or ashamed of your teeth. Even if you haven’t been to the dentist in a while, don’t worry. Our dentists are here to help you feel comfortable and safe. Many of our patients enter our doors feeling nervous about receiving a lecture. Instead, they walk out with bright smiles, and confidence that their dentist cares about them.
Some people think of the dentist as a place to be feared. Even the media portrays the dentist’s office in this way. Unfortunately, this attitude leads to a handful of oral health problems. These issues include cavities, dental infection, periodontal disease (gum disease), and a number of other problems. Even more, recent research has established a strong link between the body’s oral health and its overall health. Because everything you eat goes through your mouth, the rest of your body is impacted by your teeth. This is why it’s ever important to see the dentist, even when they cause you anxiety.
So what are you to do?
Conquering Dental Anxiety With
The Help of The Sedation Dentist
Those with dental anxiety often don’t realize that they are capable of overcoming their fears. Instead of being held back by your fear, let us help you work past it. Through open communication and the work of the sedation dentist, you can find the path to healthy teeth.
Coming to our sedation dentist office gives you the opportunity to receive the treatment you need, without the discomfort. Most of the patients for our sedation dentist come in for longer procedures. Even during more significant procedures, are patients can have the comfort of affordable sedation to keep them calm and comfortable.
We administer a pill for our sedation dentistry patients. Our patients take a small dose of sleeping medication or anti-anxiety medication. Patients take the pill an hour before treatment. This sedation dentist medicine will cause the patient to feel relaxed, calm, and even sleepy. If it’s necessary, the patient can usually consume a second pill once they arrive at the dental office. During the procedure, the patients will technically be awake and able to respond, although they won’t remember the process.
With sedation dentistry, you’ll need someone to drop you off and drive you home from your appointment.
Who Makes a Great Candidate For Sedation Dental Visits?
Although most sedation dentist patients come in for longer procedures, we can offer sedation for any procedures. Those with the following are eligible for sedation dentistry:
- Dental phobia
- Gag Reflex Issues
- Long, Invasive Dental Procedures
- Sensitive Teeth

A Message From Dr. Kathryn Alderman
Dear anxious patients,
If you need a dentist in Lincoln, Nebraska, I’m glad to help you out. I see a variety of teeth in many different conditions on a daily basis; Part of my job is to be non-judgmental and help people get the dental care they need. It saddens me to hear so many people avoiding the dentist because they are embarrassed about their teeth. My job is to solve any problems at hand and to help you feel better about yourself. If you don’t get check-ups due to embarrassment, it can present a vicious cycle that will only hurt you. The condition of your teeth will only get worse, soon leading to infections and causing you to feel even more embarrassed.
Your overall health is also negatively affected by dental infections. After many years in dentistry, I can say I’ve likely seen a set of teeth that are worse than yours. Dental conditions don’t bother me. Sometimes teeth look worse than they are. Often, they simply need gentle teeth cleaning. These problems can usually be fixed in a short period. No matter the condition of your teeth, my job is to help and advise you. Instead of judging you, I want to make sure your teeth are healthy, and I won’t judge you or make you feel embarrassed. You can rest assured that my office is an embarrassment-free zone.
For those with a dental phobia,
I believe I can change the way you see the dentist. Preserve Family Dentistry aims to help patients with a dental phobia feel completely at ease. I believe compassion is what patients need most, and I work hard to help them feel better about themselves. While some dentists prefer to lecture their clients, I’ll never talk your ear off like that. While some dentists see it as “tough love,” I believe these lectures make patients feel embarrassed. Further, this kind of attitude is far from being compassionate and caring. Instead, I believe in open communication and offering a judgment-free zone. I’ll strive to make dental visits a positive experience for you. No matter the condition of your teeth, you deserve excellent dental care.
Once you come to our office, we’ll welcome you with kindness. You can finally get the oral treatment you want and deserve. When you visit, we want you to be proud knowing you’ve overcome your fears.
If you feel embarrassed or have a dental phobia, we’re here for you. I look forward to meeting you!
In health and happiness,
Dr. Kathryn Alderman
