Dental infections will often cause severe toothaches. If you’re experiencing a toothache like this, be sure to see your emergency dentist as soon as possible. If the discomfort seems abrupt or unexpected, it’s likely that dental infection is the cause.

Abscess or Swelling
If your gums are sore or swelling, it’s possible that you’ve developed a dental abscess. Dental abscesses form when a tooth develops an infection that has reached a tooth’s root. Be sure to have this treated immediately by your emergency dentist, or it will often lead to a more serious medical emergency. Whether or not it’s a dental abscess, swollen gums should be examined by a dentist.

Knocked Out Tooth
Dentists can usually replace a knocked out tooth if it is within 30 minutes since being dislodged. If it’s longer than an hour, it’s very unlikely that your Lincoln emergency dentistry will be able to replace the tooth. When a tooth becomes dislodged, it damages any surrounding tissues, including the tooth’s nerves. After a certain amount of time, the damaged tissues can no longer support the tooth. For this reason, it’s essential to see your dentist as soon as possible after having a knocked out tooth.

Unfortunately, it isn’t uncommon for teeth to break. Small cracks to big breaks can all take a toll on your mouth and cause you a great amount of discomfort. If a break extends all the way to a tooth’s root, it’s certain that you’ll experience some serious discomfort. If this happens, be sure to schedule an appointment with us right away.

Lost Fillings or Crowns
Dentists ultimately use fillings and crowns to fix cavities or other forms of trauma and decay. That means if a filling or crown falls out, your tooth will become sensitive and vulnerable. You’ll likely experience some sensitivity to hot and cold, as well as some discomfort if the tooth is damaged. Most of the time, lost fillings aren’t that severe, but if it does become serious, be sure to reach out to your Lincoln emergency dentistry, Preserve Family Dentistry.
